With the rapid increase of car, it is more and more difficult to park a car in the modern cities. When parking a car in a narrow space, plenty of drivers, especially new learners are not very easy to undertake the task, that conclude more and more traffic accidents. An efficient automatic parking system can help the drivers to park fast and safely, which can relieve the burden of them and decrease the traffic accidents. From the latest research results, the parking assist system combining ultrasound and machine vision will be the future direction of development of the parking assist system. Therefore, the researches of the parking assist technology based on computer vision have important significance.This thesis mainly completed the following three parts of research and implementation. Firstly, this paper proposed a new vision-based parking space detection algorithm on the basis of the study of the existing parking space detection method. The algorithm extracts the parking spaces contours from pre-processed images using contour extraction algorithm based on feature extraction. The process of detection of the parking line would be simplified; second, detecting parking lines using the improved Hough line detection algorithm, and get all the parking lines intersection with the extension; finally, in this paper, a new parking space corner detection algorithm was supposed, this algorithm can achieve accurate detection and matching of the parking spaces corners. Secondly, on the basis of analysis commonly used in two vertical parking, put forward a kind of vertical parking path planning algorithm which applied to any case, this algorithm consist of the multi-radius minimum turning radius of the arc and line segment, to succeed planning out a path for a car from any starting posture and position to the target parking. Thirdly, the projection model of road plane was set up; the draw of actual track line was completed using three-dimensional mapping principle, at the same time, a new static auxiliary line which is applicable to the system was put forward and completed the drawing.Experimental results show that the new parking space detection algorithm has good robustness and accuracy for different environments; Vertical parking path planning algorithm has applicability to meet the different circumstances.
