Spheroidization rate is one of the important factors affecting the mechanicalproperties of ductile iron, and metallographic method is the most important methodsto detect the spheroidization rate of ductile iron, but the method of this detectionprocess is too complicated, must be sampled and tested, the test results are notsufficiently representative. So, it is necessary to be able to find a method of ductileiron spheroidization rate for100%rapid real-time detection.This paper analyzes the principles of ultrasonic testing spheroidization rate,ultrasound propagation velocity in a solid medium is closely related to Young’smodulus of the medium, and the spheroidization rate of ductile iron is an importantfactor affecting the Young’s modulus. Therefore, there is a certain relationshipbetween spheroidization rate and ultrasonic. This detection system use piezoelectricwafer, Arbitrary Waveform Generator, digital oscilloscope, displacement sensor andcomputer, to constructed of ductile iron spheroidization rate ultrasonic inspectionsystem, use LabVIEW programming the software program. Arbitrary WaveformGenerator issue the excitation signal applied to the piezoelectric wafer to generateultrasonic. And the digital oscilloscope receive ultrasonic form the piezoelectricwafer, transmitted the signal to computer. The computer calculate ultrasonicpropagation time. Then the displacement sensor measure thickness of the sample.After calculation we can obtain the ultrasonic wave propagation velocity.This paper compare with ultrasonic wave propagation velocity and thespheroidization rate of known ductile standard sample, established the relationshipbetween ultrasonic wave propagation velocity and spheroidization rate. Confirm thatthere is a correlation between the ultrasonic wave propagation velocity and thespheroidization rate of ductile iron. Laboratory test results show that, using therelationship we can obtain the spheroidization rate of ductile iron by the ultrasonic wave propagation velocity, and greater than95percent accuracy rate, system hasgood repeatability.
