Shengzhou, a county-level city of Zhejiang Province, is gathered a lot of motor manufacturers. Generally, they have strong manufacturing capacities but weak in design ability, so that’s the reason why they always can’t get rid of the awkward position in the bottom of the motor industry chain. This thesis is on the basis of the National Science and Technology Support Program "the Comprehensive Application Demonstration of Manufacturing Informatisation on the Support Pillar Industry in Zhejiang Province", with the small power motors as the object of study, applies DSM method into modeling the motor design process. Then a CAD system is developed in the thesis, which can support the motor structural design and help to enhance the design capability.Firstly, the background and the significance of this thesis are presented. Besides, some related researches, both home and abroad, are reviewed. Then follows a briefly introduction of the motor and its design process, as well as the analysis of the motor design process involves the fields and existing problems. Based on the above studies, gives an ideal motor structural design way.Secondly, the thesis applies the DSM method into the analysis of motor design process, establishing a DSM model which is oriented the whole motor performance, components design and CAD graphics rendering, also known as the three levels in motor design. Using this model, it lays the basis for the division of function modules of CAD system, as well as the parametric modeling and variant design of motor structure.Thirdly, based on the DSM, a specialized CAD system is developed. The architecture of the system, the key modules, and the ultimate achievement is detailed description in the thesis.In the end, the thesis summarizes the research results, and put forward to the further research content.
