Axle box bearing is the important running support component of the rail vehicle, the quality and performance of the axle box bearing affects the performance and security of the rail vehicle, so the axle box bearing performance testing must be conducted before loading. The purpose of this study is to design a rail vehicle axle box bearing testing machine, the testing machine can simulate real vehicle environment and complete axle box bearing performance contrast test.This paper specifies the overall scheme of rail vehicle axle box bearing testing machine, the scheme is not only based on research at overall design scheme of bearing testing machine around home and abroad but also combined with the axle box rolling bearing thermal test method according to China’s Railway Industry Standard, and the design of the spindle parts, support bearing chock, loading mechanism, block structure, drive system, hydraulic loading system and monitoring system scheme have been completed.This paper utilizes HyperMesh and ANSYS software to analyze stress and modal of the spindle, the spindle stress concentration sites have been found under the maximum constant load through the stress plot analysis, this paper puts forward improvement measures to improve the spindle structural strength, and the first-order natural frequency of the modal analysis has verified the spindle can avoid resonance under maximum working speed. The modal analysis are used in block structure design to find the weak point of the machine structure stiffness, and utilizes OptiStruct to design stiffener topography optimization of the vertical plate. The working performance of hydraulic loading system was dynamic simulated and analyzed on AMESim, the rationality of the design scheme and feasibility are verified by simulation.The research of this object is laying a good foundation to establish an advanced rail vehicle axle box bearing test system in the future.
