Micro heat-pipe (MHP) is an efficient thermal transfer component which principle isbased on phase change. The heat transfer performance of MHP is closely related to the itsinner wick structure, which provide the capillary force and channel to the condensed fluidfrom the condensing side back to the evaporation side. The MHP with sintered copper powderwick structure is the most widely used on the market at present, which the copper powderfilling is one of the main manufacturing process that directly related to the forming quality ofsintered wick structure and ultimately affect the heat transfer performance of the MHP withsintered wick. This paper put the vibration quantitative powder filling process of MHP withsintered wick as a starting point, and study the affection which the vibration powder fillingprocess parameters have on the quality of the powder filling. Then according to the actualproduction needs to improve the existing powder filling process and equipment of MHP withsintered wick. Focus on the research and development of the new quantitative powder fillingequipment, which is put into trial production, has acquired better effect, meeting thefunctional requirements and the corresponding design objective. The major research contentof this paper is as follows:(1)The study of the vibration powder filling process of MHP with sintered wickstructureExperiments show that the best vibration frequency of the vibration powder fillingprocess of MHP range47.5Hz~50Hz. With the increase of vibration time, the density ofcopper powder in the copper tube filling tends to be stable, and the more amount of powder tofill, the longer time that copper powder density in the copper tube needed to reach stable. Thevibration time is commonly40s that meet the production needs.(2)The development of quantitative powder filling equipmentOn the basis of study of powder filling process, a new type of powder filling equipmenthas been developed that put touch screen as an operating interface, realizing the automaticpowder filling and quantitative powder filling requirements. Equipment can meet the powderfilling requirements of copper pipes which diameter of Φ5~Φ10and length of150mm~600mm. The powder filling vibration time of each copper pipe adjustable is within the range30s~90s, and the lowest average efficiency of single workstation of equipment is580roots perhour. The powder filling qualified rate of the equipment reach99%or more after trialproduction.
