Since the21st century, with the rapid development of economy, shield machines are widely used in tunnel engineering. As the critical component of shield machine, the cutterhead has widely functions such as excavation, stability and mixing. For the continuous development of shield technology, increasingly concerning about the cutterhead performance by manufacturing enterprises and construction units requires evaluation and decision-making for the cutterhead performance. Based on the backgrounds above, reviewing the related literatures, inspection and investigation of shield machine manufacture enterprise and construction units, the performance evaluation method of composite EPB shield machine cutterhead is studied. The main researches of this paper can be summarized as follows:(1) Study on the structure of composite EPB shield machine cutterhead. Structure form, opening style, support methods of cutterhead types are analyzed. In this paper, the types and characteristics of shield machine cutters are introduced, the configuration principle of cutters is summarized, and the thrust and torque calculation model of cutterhead according to different geological conditions is established.(2) According to the selection and establishment principle of evaluation indexes. a performance evaluation system of composite EPB shield machine cutterhead and a hierarchical structure evaluation model are built. Using fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to calculate the cutterhead index weights, and evaluating cutter performance with fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and fuzzy TOPSIS decision method, a cutterhead performance evaluation method is proposed in this paper. The rationality and practicality of the evaluation model is verified with the cutting experiment and engineering application.(3) Based on the research of cutterhead critical factors and performance evaluation method, a composite EPB shield machine cutterhead design platform is developed preliminary. The system integrates the function of cutterhead designing, parameter calculation and performance evaluation. The system is serviced with3D software SolidWorks as the development platform and hybrid programmed with Visual Basic and MatrixVB. Finally a shield machine cutter CAD design module, a key parameter calculation module and a cutterhead performance evaluation module are preliminary designed.
