The hydrodynamic performance is one of the most important technical characteristics ofthe submersible, which is of great significance for the submersible maneuvering and optimaldesign. Thence, hydrodynamic coefficients are indispensable for studying the hydrodynamiccharacteristics of submersible. In this paper, instead of model experiments, a numericalsimulation method is presented and combined with post-processing to obtain hydrodynamiccoefficients, a suitable numerical calculation method is established by compared with theexperimental values, which is applied to the simulation of the HOV, then numerical predictionof its hydrodynamic coefficients is accomplished, which lays the foundation for itshydrodynamic performance prediction, also has important practical significance for theestablishment of manipulation of the equations of motion. The author established a general hydrodynamic mathematic model as the basis ofhydrodynamic equations and simplified it for some specific cases. And then based on theprinciples and methodologies of numerical computation, the CFD software is applied fornumerically simulating the captive model tests of the rotation ellipsoid. According to thesimplified mathematic model, the hydrodynamic coefficients are fitted out, which aresatisfactory by compared with the theoretical values. After that, through the application ofcontrol variable method, the influences of the main parameters on calculation results isdiscussed as well as the numerical computation techniques, including the grid generatingmethods of the controlling area and the parameters’ setting strategies, are summarized in thispaper.Afterwards, all these numerical computation techniques summarized above aresuccessively applied to the numerical computation of the SUBOFF hull and HOV, whichincludes the longitudinal portrait navigation resistance test and the main maneuverability test. The hydrodynamic mathematical equations is simplified that applys to a specific model.Through the numerical simulation of the HOV maneuvering experimentations and dataprocessing, its hydrodynamic coefficients are obtained, which are compared withexperimental results. Calculation results has higher accuracy, which proves the validity of thenumerical calculation method, at the same time the numerical computation techniques is further improved, to make it more applicable to simulation. Finally, based on all the researchwork above as well as combined with the actual operating condition of a certain light loadwork class HOV, the improved numerical methods is applied to simulate conventionalmanipulation exercise test, the main hydrodynamic coefficients is predicted by numericalsimulation. The hydrodynamic mathematical model of the main operating conditions is given, which has a certain reference value for in-depth study of hydrodynamic performance andmaneuverability emulation of HOV in the future.
