Reinforced concrete structures are the most widely used structura l forms in theworld, the ine ffic ienc y of d urability which is induced by the natura l corrosio n ofstee l is the ma in d isease for such kind of structures and rece ived the e xtens ive lyattentio ns in ho me and abroad. At present, methods based on deterministic theorywere mostly used to study the durability o f the structure, due to the uncertainty ofthe parameters affecting the structure durability, the accuracy is hard to guarantee.Thus, comb ined with an engineering project, emplo yed probability method, based onstructura l reliab ility theory and Monte Carlo method, the probability assessment ondurability of re inforced concrete bridges subject to the Chloride environment wasfina lly realized and the accuracy of the durability design and assessment was alsoimproved. The ma in conte nt of the present work can be conc lude as fo llowing:(1) The application history of re inforced structures, the ma in factors which willaffect the durability o f re inforced structures were specifically reviewed. The currentstatus and possib le proble ms of the worldwide reinforced concrete structures weregenera lly introduced. And the prevailing research achie ve ments on durab ility designand eva luatio n methods, the research background and significance were also kind lyconc luded.(2) Subject to the durability design and eva luation code on re inforced concretestructures which based on deterministic method, the co mprehens ive comparisons andanalys is between European code, Japanese code and Chinese code were imp leme nted.With a theoretica l durab ility mode l of re inforced concrete bridges, a Vis ual Basislanguage based progra m was deve loped to perform the eva luation analys is on apractica l brid ge. The design princip le o f Japanese reinforced concrete structures andevaluation method, the determination of enviro nment inde x and durability indexwere introduced, the numerica l simulations based on the Visua l Bas is la nguagebased program were performed and the results were compared with the experimenta lresults.(3) The theoretica l background o f reliab ility ana lys is, the application princ ip leof Monte Carlo method and random sa mp ling mea ns were reviewed. On the bas is ofa practica l engineering project of LingShui bridge which located in LiaoningProvince of China, a whole set of deductions a nd calculatio ns on probability a nddegeneration c haracteristics were performed on the basis o f reliab ility ana lys is a nd Monte Carlo method, and the probability assessme nt on durability of reinforcedconcrete bridges subject to the Chloride environme nt was fina lly realized.
