With the increased complexity of modern products, the difficulty of new productdevelopment is increasing rapidly. Modeling the product development process canhelp developers proactively identify and resolve problems which may occur inproduct development process. Petri net can accurately describe the detail of productdevelopment process, support parallel mode of product development, and analyzesystem through the mathematical method. Therefore, it was chosen as the modelingmethod of product development process in this paper.A product development process modeling method based on TCPN was putforward. The expression of product development process model was divided into childprocess description layer, structure description layer and activity description layer.The petri-net expressions of product development activities, product developmentprocess structure components and child process were expounded in detail in this paper.Object-oriented modeling thought was introduced, model building process was givenand a general model of product development process was built according this buildingprocess. Finally the mathematical definition of TCPN model was given; token wasassigned to color attribute and transition was assigned to time attribute.The cost calculation method of the product development process was proposed inthis paper. The total cost of development was divided into time cost and capital costto solve respectively. Resources of product development process were classified andtime-dependence vector, time-independence vector and unit resource costs weredefined, Basing on this basis, the capital cost calculation formula of wholedevelopment process was designed. The time cost of product development processwas solved according to solve P invariant of relational matrix; Dimension of time costand capital cost is unified by adopting curve dimensionless method, finally the totalcost calculation formula was got. Select structure are analyzed The method ofsimplifying loop structure and determining the priority of parallel structure transitionwere given, finally the calculation methods were verified by an example.Using C++language to develop a product development process modeling tool.The tool was divided into drawing module, data module and calculating module.Function structure of each menu in drawing module is described in detail. In the datamodule, attributes of each element and the relationship between them were defined byusing matrixes. Text documents were used to operate the data model of system, and imported the data model into the database to save it. The single transition’s time costand capital cost calculation program was implemented in calculation module. The costof the entire product development process was solved by using MATLAB.
