AS the main types of the two car accidents, the Frontal Impact caused hugeeconomic losses to society annually. In addition, the rate of inju ry is different in thedifferent overlapping rate frontal offset crash. The overlap rate of90%to100%has thehighest mortality, the overlap rate of30%to40%has the highest rate of serious injury,while the mortality rate is the second highest. In order to analysis the characteristics ofdifferent overlapping frontal offset crash, It is very important to deeply research onVehicle Structural Crashworthiness in Frontal Offset Impact of different overlappingrate.The history and current situation of car collision safety both on board anddomestic were expounded firstly. Then the relevant crash safety regulations wereintroduced and compared. The finite element method used in auto crash safetysimulation was introduced on the application level. Some modeling methods werebriefly summarized respectively.An offset impact finite element model of Taurus was established in accordancewith the requirements of Euro-NCAP regulations, and the reliability and effectivenessof the model is verified. Five different overlapping rate of offset impact finite elementmodel is established in accordance with the requirements of C-NCAP regulations. Theoverlapping rates are20%,30%,40%,50%,60%respectively. To make a comparativeanalysis of five different overlapping rate of vehicle frontal offset crash safetyaccording to the intrusion of Steering column, Pedal, the Dash pane on the passengercompartment and the amount of A-pillar rearward displacement. The results show that:Firstly, the lateral force transmission path of the car is not good enough, the amount ofdisplacement of the pedal group does not meet the requirements of NCAP and theoffset collision safety to be improved. Secondly, comparative analysis showed that20%,30%,40%overlap crash mode is similar. There is a highest acceleration peakvalue on the left B-pillar and the higher pedal backwards amount of invasion in30%and40%overlap frontal impact. Therefore, these two overlap rate have a morestringent requirements on Vehicle crash safety.For the analysis result of the overlaying rate of40%, The improvement scheme ofthe topology structure, plate thickness and materials etc. was put forward, then theinfluence to other overlap rate were inspected The results show that: Firstly,40% frontal offset crashworthiness have been improved greatly because all the amount ofintrusion were reduced apparently, in the case of not to increase in the peakacceleration obviously, therefore the risk of injury is decreased greatly. Secondly, ininspecting the influence to other overlap, the improvements to20%and30%overlapfrontal impact are good enough and have a good coupling between them. But thecoupling is not good enough in50%and60%overlap frontal impact. The Pedalintrusions are become higher instead, but the amount is relatively small, thecrashworthiness is still getting improved overall.
