Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) is high efficient with simple structure, small size and weight, and its loss is low, power factor high, so it is mainly used for fast response, wide speed range, accurate positioning, high-performance servo drive system and DC motor of update alternative. However, since the system itself has the characteristics of multi-loop, non-linear, strong coupling, difficulties are added to the design and operation of permanent magnet synchronous motor control system. Therefore, automatic control technology research and development of permanent magnet synchronous motor system have important practical value. This paper first makes a mathematical model of PMSM, then based on the voltage balance equation and flux equation, by coordinate transformation, a mathematical model of PMSM and its equivalent model under d-q Axis are established. They are the theoretical foundation for the following researches. The PMSM system is nonlinear, so the backstepping control is introduced to applicate on the PMSM speed control system and track the referent speed signal. The design process of backstepping control does not have many optional parameters and is easy to implement. Every step in backstepping control is designed with Lyapunov stability, so to ensure the stability of the system.During the actual operation, consider the motor-specific parameter changes of the PMSM and propose the adaptive backstepping control, this paper has introduced two different kinds of control strategies. One is based on the adaptive law of each motor-specific parameter, the second one is based on the direct current compensation of the q axis.
