With the improvement of living standards and the development of science and technology, automobile have become an essential vehicle for people to travel. The widespread use of the automobile has also brought a lot of negative influence, such as the phenomenon of traffic jams often appears at a higher frequency. It becomes the main way to solve urban traffic problems that intelligent transportation system generates accordingly. As an important part of intelligent transportation system, vehicle navigation system has great application value and research significance. However, the traditional vehicle navigation uses static data information, can not reflect the actual traffic information real-timely. This paper studies the vehicle navigation system of key technologies based on real-time traffic information.First, this paper analyses the sources and release channels of traffic information, including automatic collection of sensor technology and wireless communication network technology and other related technologies. Furthermore, we research the road network modeling approach for vehicle navigation system. We adopt the method of adding traffic information in the road network model to better support dynamic path search algorithm. Moreover, we provide the table structure of data storage and the method of calculating traveling expenses.Second, traditional path search algorithm in respect of the path re-search is ineffective, and it is not suitable for real-time traffic information on the route search. However, D*Lite algorithm which is used in robot pathfinder in dynamic environments has a greatly path re-searching ability. D*Lite algorithm is improved through added the re-search judgment, and modified the heuristic function to be better used in vehicle navigation systems.At last, we establish the vehicle navigation terminals which has a position system and wireless transmission system. Then we perform the simulation experiment in this terminals, and the experiment result shows that the improved D*Lite algorithm is more suitable to the vehicle navigation system based on real-time traffic information.
