Fault Location System of Power Distribution Network is a fault location system used in power distribution network, which can use remote detection terminal units to monitor power distribution network. When there is a fault occurring in power distribution network, fault information will be transmitted to monitoring master station by detection terminal units. Then fault sector or fault point will be got through analyzing overall fault failures with monitoring master station, and the geographic information will be informed to operators and maintenance personnel. So fault recovery time will be shorten by finding the fault zone more quickly, which can improve power supply reliability of distribution network obviously. The fault location system studied by this paper is a sector fault location system. It uses GPRS as its main communication network and uses fault indicator as its remote detection terminal unit. This system consists of data center, data transfer unit (DTU) and fault indicator. The fault indicator is installed on power lines to detect the line state, which can communicate with DTU by wireless radio frequency transceiver. DTU can communicate with data center by GPRS. So the fault information can be transmitted to the data center by fault indicators. Fault analysis software that is installed on data center can get the fault sector by the analysis of fault information.The main content of this paper is the development idea of fault analysis software and research of fault location algorithm. Firstly, the research background, significance and present situation of fault location system of power distribution network are described in this paper. Then the author introduces network organizing principle, communication scheme, and schemes’ security, and selects final scheme by the request of this fault location system. After that, the development idea of fault analysis software and fault analysis algorithm is discussed. This paper firstly introduces the structure of fault analysis software, then introduces subsystems what constitute this software. The function and partial implementation code are mainly discussed on the basic of their characteristic. At last, this paper summaries the full text.
