One of the major task for air force is maintaining air superiority. Rencently, as the development and application of new advanced aircraft, weapons system and tactics. This task becomes very difficult. Therefore, the air force must redouble their efforts to deal with all kinds of new possible threats and improvement of airborn missile systems and the use of advanced missile are an important link in the effort.Some air-to-air missile is a kind of high mobilit and all aspect tactical missile, which is also one of the main weapons for close combat of the air force currently. The product is the third generation of air-to-air dogfight missile, which was from the introduction of foreign technology with world’s advanced level in the nineteen eighties. It has been twenty years from self-localization identification. We need enhance the air force’s conbat capability and improve the missile’sperformance in order to make our air force to adapt to air combat nowadays. The headquarter improve the cabin of missiles a lot. The seeker has changed from one unit to four detection. The ability of anti-interference for modified control module is improved greatly. Thereby the detection precision is better than before and increase the frontal detection distance. This requires that the missile system has sufficient dynamic range. Otherwise it will not achive long range, high precision and strong function. We usually improve the dynamic range of the missile by modifying the missile configuration or increase engine to hold much powder according to foreign experience.This article state the modified design and experimental study of the solid rocket motor of the missile. In accordance with the coordination of headquarter and users, it is determined that the extended target range of missile A is1-2Km. We increase the range of the rocket by improving the thrust device rocket engine to achive of the construction of the motor, propellant charge and the calculation of internal trajectory. We start the experimental study of ground environmental test for the motor, ground ignition test and fight test in range according to the using requirement and launch environment of the air-to-air missile.The charge for solid rocket motor increases12.5kg after improved extended range. The total impulse added32.055KN.s. We achieved the predetermined target that the missile dynamic range increase2km.
