Through deformation monitoring and analysis of the gravity wharf, studying its deformation mechanism and law, we can know the health conditions of gravity wharf. This paper is based on a commonly gravity wharf in Hangzhou. The deformation mechanism and law is studied by theoretical analysis, field monitoring and finite element analysis. The main contents are as follows:1. Firstly this paper cites and summarizes the fruits got by domestic and foreign researchers. Then through research on deformation mechanism and failure mode of the gravity wharf, the main factors importing on the deformation of structure is analyzed. The results indicate that, the main factors importing on the deformation include field cargo load, mechanism design load, soil pressure, the nature of the foundation soil, the hydrological conditions and so on.2. The field deformation of the gravity wharf in Hangzhou is monitored by GPS, inclinometer and the conventional monitoring methods. Through processing the monitoring data, deformation law of the gravity wharf is emphasis analyzed.3. The finite element software ABAQUS is used to establish simulation model of the gravity wharf in Hangzhou, considering field cargo load, mechanism design load and car load. The finite element calculational results, compared with practical monitor data, shows that there is a good agreement between calculational results and monitoring results. It certifies that numerical simulation is feasible and reasonable. After the different load combination of field cargo load, mechanism design load and car load, the deformation of the model under different combination is studied.4. With change of the size, distribution and position of field cargo loads, and the change of soil properties, FEM numerical simulation is used to study the deformation law of gravity wharf. Based on the related knowledge of soil mechanics, the deformation law is theoretically analyzed. The results show that: the size of field cargo has a great influence on the structure deformation. And only in a certain range, the distribution and position of field cargo loads has an effect on the structure deformation, without the range, the influence is not obvious. With the increase of the soil elastic modulus, the deformation will decrease. The change of elasticity modulus of the topsoil has a greater impact on the deformation of structure.
