Friction phenomenon is widespread in all types of production machinery and is closely related to human being’s daily life. People have found out that the friction phenomenon in microscopic state could not be explained by macroscopic friction law since1980s. And the research of tribology was declared into a new stage of combination of micro and macro by this time. Tiny friction, as the friction between the macroscopic and microscopic friction, whose research of friction mechanism and testing method are the main content of tribology research in new stage. The level of tiny friction’s value is milli newton, so the avoiding the testing device’s influence on measured piece as far as possible becomes the key factor for a satisfied testing effect. To achieve this goal, this paper presented a non-contact testing method based on magnetic field force. The main work and research was listed below:1. The overseas and domestic research status of tiny friction was summarized, including related research results and the future of the development trend.2. To elaborate the overall structure and operating principle of this tiny friction testing device. To set up magnetic field model in this device and do the related simulation analyses. The simulation results showed the correctness of this test method.3. To elaborate and design the data acquisition system, the data uploading system and the magnetic field force control system, achieving a good communication and control effect. Besides, to build a friendly human-computer interface, that guaranteed the operation of this testing device.4. The air shaft’s movement in the air bears was regarded as the experiment subject in this tiny friction testing experiment. The experiment results were consistent with the simulation results, which demonstrated the feasibility of this testing device and the effeteness of this testing method.
