Maneuverability is a kind of important hydrodynamic performance for a ship.Knowing the maneuverability characteristics of the trimaran have an effect on the issuessuch as trimaran design, collision avoidance, docking and so on.Based on the theory of viscous flow, I calculate the hydrodynamic coefficients; Basedon MMG nonlinear equations, I calculate the track of the model turning; At HarbinEngineering University multifunction tank, I get the relative hydrodynamic coefficients bydoing constrained model tests, hydrodynamic coefficients, and compare the theoreticalpredictions with the test results in order to verify the correctness of the theoreticalprediction methods; At the same place, I get the important parameters like rotation diameterand transcend angle by doing free running test, and compare the test results with thetheoretical prediction in order to verify the correctness of the theoretical predictionmethods.For the practical trimaran, through receding and pure sway test, I get sevenhydrodynamic coefficients with the use of FORTRAN programming and the MATLABsoftware. Based on the theory of viscous flow, after mesh the ship through ANSYS ICEMsoftware, I calculate the hydrodynamic force of the ship model using FLUENT software.Based on the obtained hydrodynamic derivatives, predict the coupling hydrodynamicderivatives. Put the hydrodynamic derivatives and ship parameters into the equations,simulate the trimaran rotary motion.Studies of the free running model test have shown that, at certain speed, the diameter issmaller with bigger rudder angle, and the heeling angle is very small; the hydrodynamicderivatives which is based on the theory of viscous flow and calculated through FLUENTsoftware,have small deviation with the results of the model test, which shows thatcalculating the hydrodynamic derivatives through FLUENT software can forecast theresults well and it has certain value in engineering.
