Integrated modular avionics system has been widely used in many civilian aircraft. Theflight management system, including navigation, guidance, flight planning and performancemanagement function, is the core of the system of integrated modular avionics. By usingflight management system, the pilots’ pressure, workload and saving cost of aircraft flight canbe reduced. Flight routes are determined by navigation module which is in flight managementsystem, so that flight management system has the most important impact for aircraft flight.This research is about the design and simulation of navigation module in flight managementsystem. And, the implementation scheme is given. The connection between CPU and outsidecircuits is achieved and the information storage using four memory devices is completed.These works have a very important significance for the development of flight managementsystem.First of all, the structural characteristics of IMA system and flight management systemfunction are presented in this paper. Then a flight management system based on PowerPC isbuilt. The hardware circuit and application programs are included in the system design. TheFresscale’s PowerQuiccIII MPC8548E is used in the hardware part of the system as microcontroller core. The circuit designs include a serial circuit, Ethernet circuit, PCI Expresscircuit, data storage circuit, a system power supply circuit, JTAG debug circuit, system clockcircuit, reset circuit and the design of system circuit board.The working principle and circuitdesign are given in this paper in detail.Secondly, the program flowcharts of the flight management navigation system, as wellas programs the corresponding procedures, are present. The simulation model of the flightmanagement system is built in Visual C++development environment. The functions of theflight management system based on PowerPC can be realized through simulation verification.The system is stable. Because a high-performance MPC8548E processor based on PowerPCarchitecture is selected, the high-speed communication can be achieved by four enhancedtriple-rate Ethernet controllers. The information storage is designed by DDR2SDRAMmemory controller combining with external DDR2SDRAM memory and flash memory. Thefast processing data rate, large capacity storage and other characteristic of flight managementsystem are realized. Results of test show that the system meets the demands of the design.And it has a good reliability and stability. At last, the programs of navigation database and their man-machine interface are writtenin Visual C++development environment. Database search functions are achieved. Each partof the software program flowcharts and implementation steps are given.
