As a hot topic of the geotechnical engineering, the foundation pit has arousedmore and more concern, and the study of it grows rapidly in recent years, obtainingfruitful achievements. The cantilever pile is a traditional retaining structure, whichcan maintain stability by its own stiffness and strength. Convenient operation, littleeffect and less expense are cantilever pile’s feature, so it is widely used in engineeringpractice. The research on calculating method of cantilever piles has acquired manyachievements, but it still has its’ limitation, so this paper proposed a new method forfurther study of cantilever piles by using finite element methods.First, the paper reviewed theories of earth pressure, and analyzed the progress ofthe theory, then outlined the calculation theories of retaining structure, at last pointedout the advantage and disadvantage of these methods.Secondly, on the basis of introducing the row pile retaining structure, the articleanalyzed the common used calculation theories for cantilever piles, presented its’basic principle and steps, and finally indicated the theories’ limitation.Thirdly, in fact, the earth pressure acting on piles distributes in nonlinear style, which is not considered properly by current theories. So with combining the elasticmethod and common deformation theory, the paper established a nonlinear pile-soilinteraction model, and proposed a method for calculating the internal forces ofcantilever piles is proposed, which can consider the pile-soil interaction and nonlineardistribution of earth pressure. Finally, the article verified the theory by an engineering example, then contrastedthe results computed by new method with classical method, and at last the insidefactors are discussed. The result shows that the proposed method is practical inengineering.
