Panel type viscoelastic damper made of high damping material was a new type ofviscoelastic dampers. It can reduce the seismic response of structure by adding thedamping and dissipating vibration energy of the structure. Because this device wassimply and the components were cheap, viscoelastic damper had a broad applicationforeground. Comparison with traditional bracing type viscoelastic dampers, panel typeviscoelastic dampers easy assembly and maintenance, to provide more open space tomeet the functional and structural design of the building structure requirements. Forhigh stiffness building structure, it can improve energy dissipation of viscoelasticmaterials area to increasing the ability. The main content of this paper include thefollowing aspects:(1) This paper used analysis software MIDAS/Gen analyzed reinforced concreteframe structure with panel type viscoelastic dampers parameter under rare earthquake.Studied the loss factor, the shear area and changes in the thickness of the viscoelasticlayer on the panel type viscoelastic dampers, The analysis results showed that,thegreater the loss factor of the panel type viscoelastic material, the greater the energydissipation effect; The greater shear area, the more obvious the effect of the damperenergy dissipation; Without exceeding the limit strain amplitude of viscoelasticmaterial, the thinner the thickness of the panel type viscoelastic layer, the higher theenergy dissipation contained diagonal brace,herringbone brace,angle brace and wallbrace on energy dissipation effect. The analysis results showed that energy dissipationby using wall brace link to panel type viscoelastic damper is the best, second isherringbone brace and diagonal brace, thirdly is angle brace. Studied differentarrangement of panel type viscoelastic damper on effect of the energy dissipationstructure.The analysis results showed that the best arrangement in the energydissipation structure: along the structural layers, double compartments started from thebottom, the single compartment started from the bottom, the single compartment fromthe top, structural lower multilayer, the worst arrangement is structural uppermultilayer arrangement. Studied different wall brace affected the energy dissipationstructure, The analysis results showed that the reinforced concrete frame structure withpanel type viscoelastic dampers had best energy dissipation when the lateral stiffnessof the wall brace was greater than the stiffness of the panel type viscoelastic damper. Studied the impact of different venue seismic wave that affect the energy dissipationperformance of the reinforced concrete frame structure with panel type viscoelasticdamper.The analysis results showed that the energy of the seismic input structure isgreater when the soil is softer, and with high damping properties of the panel typeviscoelastic damper can dissipate greater energy.(2)Using ETABS and MIDAS/Gen studied reinforced concrete frame structurewith panel type viscoelastic dampers and shear type mild steel damper in samedamping forces and energy consuming way under frequent earthquake and rareearthquake. The energy consumption of shear type mild steel damper under frequentearthquake was not high, and the panel type viscoelastic damper was able to play abetter reduction of energy consumption. Two damper can play a good energyconsumption under rare earthquake, their hysteresis curve was very full and control ofthe seismic response of the structure was effective. The degree of injury of structurewas lighter than the structure with shear type mild steel damper, they were able to slowdown the plastic deformation of the structure.(3) By summarizing the design method of viscoelastic damper, a design methodwas achieved to applied to energy dissipation structure. The design process of thepanel type viscoelastic damper was put forward and this paper preliminary proposedthe installation construction program in engineering applications.(4) A shear wall structure in Sichuan for energy dissipation design with ETABSand MIDAS/Gen, By input seismic waves,elastic time history analysis under frequentearthquake and nonlinear time history analysis under rare earthquake for the structurewith panel type viscoelastic damper.The analysis results showed that in terms offrequent earthquake or rare earthquake, compared to the original structure, thestructure with panel type viscoelastic damper can control the seismic response veryeffective. the story drift meet regulatory requirements. The panel type viscoelasticdamper can take the lead role in energy dissipation in the structure, and weakened theseismic response of the structure rapidly, reduced the plastic deformation of thestructure, let the structure had more elastic and plastic deformation reserves, to achievea good energy dissipation mechanism, to meet the requirements of no collapsing withstrong earthquake.
