The pulse load diesel generator sets equipped with the flywheel energy storagetechnology has been applied in engineering practice, such as in recent years severaldegaussing ships and degaussing stations project introducing the flywheel energystorage technology to achieve short time power of1.5times or more than the gen-setrated power; In some emergency power supply applications where the load fluctuatessignificantly but the higher quality of power supply is specially focused on, theflywheel energy storage unit is also needed, it can improve transient speed droop,optimize the supply frequency and voltage on one hand, on the other hand, choosingdiesel engine according to the load fluctuation of the peak power is obviously noteconomical. Unfortunately, there’s still no systematic theoretical summary on theengineering applications of the design, optimization and matching of the pulse loadgen-set energy storage systemThis paper combined the degaussing marine generator sets and the Majishanemergency power station diesel generators, researched the design, building and test ofboth projects to summarize the engineering methods on the design, optimization andmatching of the energy storage system.
