Nowadays, there is a heated trend of urban rail transit construction in most big cities.Along with the speeding up of urbanization, the underground pipeline system becomesmore and more complicated. Inevitably, in the process of tunnel construction, we cannotavoid affecting the underground pipelines. Tunnel construction will endanger the safety ofthe pipelines as it will cause the soil disturbance and sometimes even damage the pipelines, which may bring about serious accident like gas leakage when we encounter theunderground pipelines in tunnel construction. Therefore, a profound assessment of thepossible damage brought out by tunnel construction on adjacent pipelines is of greattheoretical and practical value. This thesis begins with a literature review of relevant studies both from China andabroad on deformation of adjacent pipelines caused by tunnel construction. Then, inconsideration of the practice of tunnel construction in China, the thesis comes up with themajor factors causing the deformation of adjacent pipelines. The approach of single factoranalysis is applied in the analysis of the relativity between the major factors and pipelinesettlement and deformation. With reference to the standard of settlement controlling of gaspipe and feed pipe and drain pipe, the major factors are classified into five grades, whichis for future reference in judging the safety of the affecting factors in tunnel constructionpractice. There follows an assessment of the effectiveness of the analysis on the safetyrisks of underground pipelines in this thesis, in which the fuzzy Bayesian network isapplied. The last part of this thesis is an assessment of the grade of the safety risk ofadjacent pipelines caused by tunnel construction in a tunnel construction project, using thefuzzy Bayesian network. The crucial factors leading to different safety risk grades arepointed out in this thesis by applying the sensitivity analysis. Through study, we can get tothe conclusion that the underground pipelines are basically safe in this case. The relative position of the tunnel and the pipelines, and the parameters of the pipelines are the mostrelevant factors in assessing the safety of the underground pipelines. This thesis is a study on the risk of underground pipelines in application of the fuzzyBayesian network and is an attempt to the diversification of studies on the undergroundpipelines. However, given the complication of the impact tunnel construction has upon thesafety of adjacent pipelines, this thesis is just a rudimentary study, which still needs moreprofound research and further discussion.
