Nowadays, the development level of the equipment manufacturing industry is thebasic yardstick of judging whether one state’s industry and national economy developed ornot, while the CNC machine which serves as the machine tools of the equipmentmanufacturing industry, is the strategic equipment to guarantee for the high technologyindustry’s development and the national defense modernization. The key performance ofthe high-grade CNC machine consists of precision, speed, reliability, process capability, efficiency and so on, which is mainly determined by the numerical control system. Spindlemotor, as the key and core of the spindle drive CNC system, acts as a role of the dynamicexecution component of the CNC system, whose performance directly determines the keytechnical indicators, such as dynamic characteristics, precision, processing speed, vibrationand noise of the machine tool equipment, hence it has a decisive influence on theperformance of the machine tool, the layout structure and manufacturing cost. So the designand optimization of AC permanent magnet synchronous spindle motor for the CNCmachine becomes increasingly important and necessary. The motor studied in this thesis is an AC permanent magnet synchronous spindlemachine with rated power of35kW, rated speed of3000rpm and maximum speed of6000rpm, which is applied to the CNC machine. This paper focuses on the process of thedesign and optimization of the motor, aiming at attaining the motor, which owns highpower-density, high efficiency, high performance-cost ratio, low torque ripple, smallvolume and light weight.First, according to the basic request of the manufacturer for the motor, the design goalcan be explicated referring to the relevant literature and the technical data, and the basictype of the motor can be determined. Second, according to the relevant data and theprinciple knowledge, the basic structure of the motor can be determined, including the polesand slots combination, the stator and rotor structure. Third, the main dimensions of themotor should be estimated, and the suitable material for the motor should be selected.Fourth, the FEM software should be used to calculate the initial plan to obtain theperformance of the electromagnetic analysis, including no-load, load, overload,short-circuit and demagnetization, then the simulation results should be compared with thedesign goal. If the results don’t meet the design requirements, modify the model, and repeatthe design processes until the results are in accordance with the design requirements. Fifth, on the basis of the results of the preliminary analysis of the electromagnetic performance, the motor structure optimization should be proceeded, including slots and polescombination, aspect ratio and so on. First of all, the motor structure which fulfills thedesign requirements should be found, then under the condition of meeting the designrequirements, to reduce the cost and to improve the running performance are needed for thefurther research.
