With the rapid development of China’s highway construction, highway comfortrequirements getting higher and higher. Bumping at bridge-head has become one of thecommon diseases of highways and city roads at home and abroad. During the course ofhighway construction, bridges and fill subgrade transition section because of differences inthe structure of forms, construction period requirements and back filling behind abutmentof small location not conducive to compaction during construction towards vehiclejumping phenomenon.Based on a abutment high filling project of Wuhan Tianhe airport Highwaymonitoring projects, combined with the construction monitoring of back fill behindabutment of typical bridge transition section’s subgrade settlement, paper started theanalysis of high fill subgrade of abutment deformation and study on the control methods.Simulation process research aimed mainly at ground surface settlement duringconstruction and during the operation of subgrade top sedimentation variation,comparative analysis of data obtained from the monitoring during construction. The studyshow that in the filling process, different area has the different surface settlement, backoffice settlement increases with the distance from the back grows. Foundation left back2m from the back to be the most dangerous area. Field monitoring and simulation resultsare the result of surface subsidence in the distance from the back of the settlement ofdifferences arising from different is consistent. Surface settlement left back2m from theback is the maximum. Because this not only fill highest, and the heavy compactionmachinery to be used for compaction; other sections using the step method filling,subgrade compaction on, most of its ground surface settlement was completed in advance.Thus, weak in the construction process should strictly control the construction rates,preventing excessive ground settlement, and damage to the soil.Based on the simulation analysis on bumping at bridge-head, put forward a proposalapplied on column type or ribbed plate type abutment reinforcement, that new-type composite materials FRP applied to backfill, FRP reinforced "bumping at bridge-head"proposal which follow the "rigid-flexible transition" principle. Through the simulation ofthe program show that: from the top of embankment settlement as a whole, FRP reinforcedto handle the support effect is obvious. Differential settlement of bridge transition sectionwas reduced to23.3%. And jump phenomenon would be significantly reduced. Throughcomparison with the normal filling back method, combined with the settlement of controlresults, as well as the unit of force show that: after FRP reinforced treatment abutment hasbetter purpose, is effective measures to prevent bumping at bridge-head.
