As the evaluation method of SBS modified asphalt cannot fully reflect its intrinsicproperties, It is also difficult for the evaluation method to adapt to the present matureproduction technology of modified asphalt.Allowing for the limitation of specification,we usetheoretical analysis,experimental study, image processing and mathematical calculations tostudy quantitive analysis method of microstructure of SBS modified asphalt, and put forwarda relationship between the method and the conventional index of SBS modified asphalt and itsapplication.Two kinds of matrix asphalt and three kinds of SBS modified asphalt were chosen,several fluorescence microscopic images of SBS modified asphalt with different matrixasphalt, the SBS modifier types and dosage of SBS modified asphalt were gotten. By using ofimage processing software and mathematical method to calculate the area ratio of SBSmodifier in fluorescence microscopic image, then we analyzes the relationship between SBSarea ratio and penetration, softening point, ductility, adhesion work and shear adhesive power,furthermore we get the range of SBS area ratio in which the SBS modified asphalt hasexcellent technical performance; Fractal dimension is used to evaluate distribution uniformityof the SBS modifier, combined fractal theory, image processing software and mathematicalmethod to calculate fractal dimension, and analysis the relationship between fractal dimensionand the penetration, softening point, ductility, adhesion work and shear adhesive power ofSBS modified asphalt, then we obtain excellent technical properties range of fractaldimension;By using of image processing software, skeletal processing and box chooseaverage method to calculate the developing fineness of the SBS modifier, the relationshipbetween the developing fineness and the penetration, softening point, adhesion work andshear adhesive power of SBS modified asphalt has been studied, SBS developing finenessscope with excellent technical performance has been achieved; With the help of imageprocessing software, a certain test and the mathematical method to calculate the times ofactual volume expansion of SBS after swelling, corresponding numerical examples are given. Finally, relying on project, the results of the above mentioned research have been applied andverified.Results show that the SBS modified asphalt has good performance when microstructurequantitative indicators are: the range of SBS area ratio is35%~45%, the fractal dimension isequal or greater than2.40, the range of developing fineness of SBS is2.2to2.7μm.Microstructure quantitative technique to qualitive evaluation and solutions of problems ofSBS modified asphalt has practical value.
