Slope instability caused the most serious problems in natural disaster. It bringsnumerous tragedies to human being: it take lives, make wealth loss, and hold up thesustainable development of regional economy. There are quantities of forces that can leadto landslide, but rainfall especially intensive rain is one of the most important factors.The paper was based on the engineering of Xiao-Kang highway. Through all sorts oflaboratory experiments, the properties of the soil such as physical propertiesswelling-shrinkage, intensity are obtained. By means of monitoring on the landslide anddeformation of bridge spanning landslide, it was definited that the nature, main cause andelement factor of landslide, the failure types of landslide on road cutting along Xiao-Kanghighway have characteristic of shallow and creep. Conclusions show that the reliabilityindex decreases and instability probability increases significantly after intense rainwater.The hazard that landslide brings to the construction and management of highway becomesmore and more serious. The paper uses FLAC3D to analyze the variation of stress andstrain of the landslide, and analyses the stability of the landslide using the finite elementstrength reduction method.In a word, during the rain, the surface water immerged into the soil, which inereasesthe weight of the landslide and the pore-water pressure. and with the influence of swelling,the landslide turns into the limiting state of equilibrium, and begins to slide, it isparticularly urgen to take timely measures.
