Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is recognized as one of the most advanced fuelcell today. A variety of electrolyte materials have been used in SOFC, and themost remarkable one is ZrO2stabilized with oxides of trivalent metals. It isthoroughly researched and most widely used nowadays. In this article,5mol%yttria-stabilized Zirconia was prepared by thecasting method. By changing process parameters, three different groups ofsamples were produced, with thickness of each set ranging from50μm to1.5mm.By XRD, the Archimedes method and SEM, the crystal structure, density andsurface morphology were determined. In addition, the electrical properties of the samples were tested by ACimpedance spectroscopy. The type of conductivity of the samples was obtainedby quantitative analysis on Cole-Cole figs. The maximum conductivitymeasured was a reasonable0.02S/cm. Through Arrhenius curves of the samples,we confirmed the non-linearity of Arrhenius relationship in a wide temperaturerange. The conductivity activation energy of the samples was1.0eV, which wasconsistent with theoretical values. The relationship between the preparationprocess and electrical properties was further discussed. This article also provided a qualitative test method on the grainconductivity by analysis of the relationship between AC conductivity of samplesand the test frequency. The advantages and disadvantages of the two methodswere compared in the concluding part of this article.
