In order to satisfy the requirements of high reliability and long life, the interference rivetingprocess is more and more widely used in the modern aircraft assembly process. As the amount ofinterference is a key indicator to measure riveting quality, the amount of interference has an importantinfluence on the evaluation of the riveting quality. In this paper, the calculation method forinterference is researched based on the metal deformation theory, finite element numerical simulationand process verification for riveted structure.In this article, the calculation method for interference is proposed based on the elastic-plastictheory. The upset head volume is obtained based on the upset head contour model and controlparameters, then the amount of interference is calculated combined with the initial parameters of thenail and hole. The finite element numerical simulation assessment method is put forward. The upsethead contour model control parameters are measured by simulating the riveting deformation process.The amount of interference is calculated according to the methods and parameters above. And thecorroboration is provided comparing simulation results with the calculated. The validation programfor interference calculation is designed, which takes upset head height for control variables. Using ofCNC machine tools and pneumatic pressure riveting machine, the riveting test is carried out. Thenupset head contour model control parameters is detected. The applicability of the method is verifiedby comparing the calculated values, simulation results and test results.The calculation method is applicable for aircraft riveting quality inspection, which can overcomethe shortcomings of traditional destructive detection method for riveted structure interference. Themethod is engineering applicable and easy to operate and provides the technical basis for aircraftriveting assembly quality inspection.
