| Now, crack sealing is a common pavement maintenance treatment, andaccording to relevant research that given a proper installation, crack sealant canextend pavement service life by three to five years. But in the area of large rangeof temperature, crack sealant often fails prematurely due to the performance inlow temperature can’t satisfy the need of the road. So the selection of cracksealant determine the quality of maintenance treatment largely. In China, thecurrent guideline is <Rubber asphalt sealant and filler of pavement> which referto ASTM standard specification, but the guideline doesn’t do the adjustmentaccording to local environment, which cause the result of the evaluation couldn’tpredict the performance of crack sealant in low temperature rightly. The purposeof this research was to develop performance guidelines for the selection of hot-poured bituminous crack sealants at low temperature. This was accomplished byupgrading low temperature performance tester of sealant material for pavement,field searching and then test the material performance in different parameter.This paper developed a standard test method to test the ability of deformation incrack sealant, and evaluated the feasibility of existing crack sealant inHeilongjiang province by the new developed test method.Firstly, to upgrade the low temperature performance tester of sealantmaterial. Summarizing and solving the problems faced in early tester,demarcating the tension and displacement in the new tester, proving theparallelism among the three upload system. And to meet different purpose of test,two new test specimens were designed adhesive performance testing specimenand deformation performance testing specimen.In addition, investigating the work environment of crack sealant To divideHeilongjiang province into districts according to average temperature in January.And investigate the transverse/longitudinal crack development in Heilongjiangprovince in the selected representative road of each district, computing the rateof crack development.A third part, Selecting the standard size of specimen through test of different size, and selecting the standard stretching speed through test ofdifferent speed. Research the change of crack sealant performance by reducingtemperature from0℃~﹣30℃,and then formulating the stretching performanceof crack sealant testing in low temperature process.At last, to fix the test parameter, evaluation index and standard according tofield investigation. Evaluating the applicability of existing sealant inHeilongjiang province by the new developed test method. And compare theresult to the ASTM specification’s. |
