Range-Extended Electric vehicle (REEV) is developed with increasing smallengine and generator system (also known as range extender) based on pure electricvehicle. With advantages as high efficiency and energy saving and long mileage aswell as, it’s considered the most promising new energy vehicle technology. Thedriving dynamics in REEV is provided entirely by the drive motor, so the efficiencyand reliability are the keys in designing drive motors. Firstly, Drive motor needsmeeting the vehicle’s performance requirements, and permanent magnetsynchronous motors (PMSM) have been promoted because of the obviousapplication advantage. However, as the vehicles need to adapt to the complexoperating environment, so the motor’s operating ambient temperature range is large,the performance of the motor severely affected by the high and low temperature,sometimes motor even can’t work properly. The paper firstly designs the functionalmotor according to the sample motor car indicators, and then carries out the motorperformance temperature characteristics study.Lastly, the cooling system is studiedthrough thermal field simulation calculation.According to the drive motor program specific indicators, the methodcombining magnetic circuit calculation and finite element simulation has been usedto design the sample motor. A two-dimensional finite element model of functionalsample motor is established. Calculate the point of the work area and performancesimulation by the results in the design of sample motor. After the motor design andsample motor processing, The results are verified by the experimental tests, alsobuilding the foundation of thermal field and temperature characteristics study.For the high thermal load causes the high motor operating temperatureproblem, the addition of the sample motor cooling structure has been designed.Establish a temperature finite element model for the sample motor, at the same time,the steady and transient temperature are calculated, get the distribution in operatingpoint of the motor temperature. Calculate the different ambient temperaturesaffecting the temperature rising of the motor components, and analysis existingcooling structure on effect of the cooling.Then, the optimization method isproposed.In order to study the temperature characteristics of the motor, a detailedcalculation have been studied in the temperature characteristics of the motormaterial. The characteristics of the motor is derived in a different variation ofambient temperature by using of the thermal field results, and be verifiedexperimentally at high and low temperature test chamber. The above results laid the foundation for the next step optimization of cooling structure and theelectromagnetic component.The research in subject provides a theoretical reference and analytical methodsfor the electric vehicle motor, lays a theoretical and experimental basis for the nextstep optimal design functional sample motor.
