Water lubricated rubber bearings have been widely used in shipbuilding for itsmany advantages such as non-pollution, abality to absorb vibration and impact. Atthe same time its large LD ratio and low elasticity modulus make the lubricationcharacterristic more complex. So far, more studys are foxused on the lubricationmechanism, characteristic, wear characteristics and formulation of material. Fewstudys have been seen about the dynamic characteristic of rotor-water lubricatedrubber bearings system. Therefore, this paper made a study about the static, dynami ccharacteristic, furthermore a theoretical investigation and a experimental researchabout the dynamic characteristic of the rotor-water bearing system.First, a elstohydrodynamic lubrication model has been established based onReynolds equition and Winkler assumption taking the inclination of journal intoconsideration, and provide a numerical scheme based on finite difference method.Three kind of water bearings are researched about their static characteristic. Then linearized the water film force by32coefficients based on differencemethod, got8radial character coefficients and8bending character coefficients bysimplification. And got the coefficients on different balance positions. Found thatthe deformation of the bearing liner will lead to differences between two crossdumping coefficients, and a larger LD ratio leads to larger bending charactercoefficients.Establish a FEM model about a rotor-water lubricated rubber bearing system.Make calculations about the system supported by32-coefficients-bearings and8-coefficients-bearings respectively. Found that the effects of the bendingcharacteristic for a large LD ratio bearing can not be ignored, and the deformation ofthe bearing liner will lead to a larger amplitude of the response. Finally, a test rig was built, and the response of the rotor was investigated, andwas compared with the system supported by oil bearings. Found that the lubricationsituation of the system is deteriorated when supported by water bearings.
