Research On The Ecology Of City Waterfront Landscape

Water is the fountain of life and is where human civilization begins. Being an importantcomponent of city public space, waterfront area is playing an siginificant role in developing thequality of the whole city. In the aspect of environment it purifies the air, mitigates the heat islandeffect and regulates the climate. In the aspect of ecology it protects the habitat for animal and plant,recover the ground plant and the biodiversity of city waterfront area. In the aspect of economy itsspecial design contributes to the tourism of the city and drives the economical progress. In theaspect of society the development of the waterfront area is able to increasing the city’s popularityand important to shaping a good image of the city.The city public space is focus on widespread rigid pavement but small green area as secondaryreliance both in home and abroad before the concept of ecology develops, in which the proportionof the green area cannot meet the specification. Ecology is considered as a new idea in designing.There are quite a few outsanding cases about the development of city waterfront area in developedcountries while in China it is still lag behind. Since the biodiversity depends on motherland’ssplendid rivers it’s significant to developing our own theories and practical methods on citywaterfront area. Nowadays the economy is in fast increasing but environmental quilaty isdecreasing. The idea of ecology is becoming more and more important by showing its effects.Ecological designing is changing into a trend in the field of landscape planning that the designerstend to the original and natural designs.This thesis regards the city waterfront area as the object ofstudy for reasons that waterfront areas in city are closely related and combined to the residents. It’svery important to analyse the natural attributes of the water scientificly before exploiting andnecessary to keep it safe. By studying on landscape ecology theories, landscape ecological designtheories and so on, this thesis discusses the space environmental features of city waterfrontlandscape and the principles of ecological designing.The article is aiming at guiding the landscape designs of city waterfront area by using somereferential theories on such as ecological landscape designing and ecological techniques, whichfocus on restoring the nature and put forward the principle of ecology priority. The case study onthe regulatory planning of Xunsi river ecological corridor uses the theories to guiding the practicesand combines it with the data and also doing general summary, existing analysis and basal researchsystematicly, proposing conceptual planning, developmental planning, unit designing and adviseson practice that points at preliminary work.. The ecological designing idea runs through the wholeplan in hoping to providing resources for the lanching plan on Xunsi river ecological corridor andits revelant development both in theory and practice.
