Due to the complex highway construction conditions in permafrost regions of highaltitude for years, the road retaining structures and bridge-culver as well as sub gradehave complicated interactions with the soils around. The stuctures are easily destroyed bythe soil pressure and frost heace force with the alternating cycles role in the warm and coldseasons. The buildings easily destroyed by the impact of alternating cycles of soil pressureas well as frost heave force in warm and cold seasons, that is the retaining structure’s mainharm which is different from that other buildings’. Therefore, it is necessary to observemomently its retaining wall of soil mass temperature, moisture, soil pressure in order tofurther study the frost heave variation of the permafrost regions. This paper relies on the monitoring project of Qinghai province, namely retainingwall monitoring of highway, and retains its wall monitorin methods. At the same time, theauthor does some researches, containing results comparison and error analysis fromvarious monitoring instruments. Moreover, the author use Finite element software to dosome research on numerical simulation of the retaining wall temperature and stress.Firstly, the harm of retaining walls in permafrost regions will be classified and analyzed, thusmaking suggestions about the harm’s producing and eliminating, then to discuss the frostdamage prevention design. Secondly, monitoring program, relevant device layouts andmaintenance planning are to be worked out according to frost damage characteristics andgeographic environment of retaining wall in permafrost regions. Once again, by the indoortrials methods, some devices can be adjusted and made error analysis trials, thereby theauthor can gain instrumental errors for different situations and thus modify observed value. In the end, using Finite element software to proceed numerical simulation on retainingwall temperature field and frost heave stress field, the author select three different types ofEPS board for comparison in order to study their effect on temperature within retainingwall,as well as the effect of the EPS board different. Ultimately, the author draw theconclusion about the effect of shedding load on the retaining wall insulation and the impactof the EPS board difference in different types.By monitoring retaining soil mass of temperature, moisture and soil pressure in permafrost regions,it can be observed from time to time retaining soil mass temperature, moisture and soil pressure changes, and then studied law retaining heaving, the design ofretaining walls provide a reference.
