As the core components of the hydraulic system in engineering machinery, multi-wayvalve decides the maneuverability, reliability and efficiency of the whole machine. Domesticmulti-way valve used in engineering machinery has long been depending on imports, whichhas become the bottleneck in the development and technological progress in our engineeringmachinery industry. Therefore, our nation launches in succession to develop multi-way valve,however, due to the lack of research on internal flow characteristics of multi-way valve, theresearch work is only limited to simple imitation. Thus, all aspects of technology are laggingbehind. In this thesis, the characteristics of the multi-way valve for a type excavator in theexcavator boom operating mode are studied by the method of combining theoretical analysiswith numerical simulation to provide a certain theoretical basis for the development ofmulti-way valve.According to the work characteristics of excavator boom, the hydraulic system principleof the multi-way valve on the operation of boom is analyzed deeply, which provides a solidfoundation for the further study on characteristics of valve.By combining analytic geometry with flow field simulation, the orifice area of typicalthrottling groove in multi-way valve is analyzed and calculated, and then, the method tocalculate orifice area is determined. The relationship between orifice area of the boom blockand spool displacement in multi-way valve is analyzed, and the characteristic curve of orificearea is obtained. The calculation of orifice area is programmed based on MATLAB. It isbeneficial for optimizing the valve port.The fields about pressure, velocity, velocity vector, turbulent kinetic energy and so onwithin the multi-way valve in the working boom are analyzed by computational fluiddynamics software FLUENT. The pressure drop characteristic of the whole multi-way valveis researched. The flow coefficient on valve port of the boom block is analyzed, whichprovides a certain reference for the optimal design of multi-way valve.The steady flow force of two kinds of typical throttling groove valves is researched bycombining the theoretical calculation with the flow field simulation. the rationality andreliability of the steady flow force in flow field simulation results are analyzed. The steadyflow force of the boom block is calculated by FLUENT, and the characteristic curve of steadyflow force is obtained. This work has a certain guiding significance for the operation andcontrol of multi-way valve.After series of research on the characteristics of the multi-way valve in the excavator working boom, this article provides a certain theoretical guidance for structural optimization,accurate control of flow, energy conservation, noise reduction of multi-way valve and theaccurate matching of driving system of boom spool. Moreover, not only does it provide a newidea to research on characteristics of hydraulic valve, but also reduces the cost and the cyclein development of hydraulic valves. What’s more, it has certain academic significance.
