To reduce traffic congestion in urban intersections, Traffic management department usesa variety of traffic organization methods of the intersection. Although the existing methodsmake the rational use of space and time resource of intersection, improve the capacity of theintersection, but in actual traffic operation space resource is not still fully used in road. Howto further tap the potential for road in the existing road resource, and to practice” seizingevery minute and second in time, fighting for every inch of land in space" the concept ofintersection organization is the purpose of the research.Based on the analysis of the research and practice of traffic organization methods, underthe guidance of the new concept in the intersection, the paper put forward a new method byinstalling the reverse variable lane in the exit of the intersection. Mainly for the followingwork:(1)Define the reverse variable lane.(2)Study its installing conditions.(3)Study installing method of the reverse variable lane systematically, include numberof lanes, lane length, induction signal’s open and close time and corresponding supportingmeasures.(4)Study the methods of analyzing traffic efficiency of intersection after setting reversevariable lane(5)The intersection of the Tenth Jing Road and Shungeng Road in Jinan isdetailed-analyzed.By the installation of reverse variable lane, time and space resource of road are made fulluse, the capacity and traffic efficiency of intersections are improved and the traffic congestionis eased to a certain extent. The paper provides a new approach to ease the traffic congestionof intersection for the traffic management departments. Installation of the reverse variablelane can be to promote to the use of traffic organization in domestic cities.
