Road cross-sectional width of the transition section is accident-prone areas, thecross-section of a reasonable convergence is an important part of the highway system oftechnical standards. At present, the design specifications only from the linear continuity ofcross sections of varying width along its transition should apply, convergence should becoordinated, and not based on cross-section using the function of each component separatelyspecified. It is difficult to grasp for the designers. Therefore, to carry out cross-sectional widthof the transition section of road gradient index study to ensure traffic safety, comfort, reducethe accident rate, reduce accidents and casualties property has important significance. At the basis of summing up the literatures, using the vehicle lane changing behaviortheory, according to the driver change lanes with the characteristics of the S-shaped trajectory, this paper proposed running track changing model based on circular curve and cyclotron line.According to the driving characteristics in the number of lane change sections, this paper putforward the recommended length of the transition section of driveway using the lane changingmodel. Meanwhile, according to the characteristics of the central median, the paperrespectively calculated the length of the width varying transition section and the openingtransition section of the central median, and gave the recommended values of the length of thetransition section. Finally, according to the characteristics of the continuity of the operation ofthe vehicle, the paper put forward a reasonable position and recommended length of the hardshoulder transition section in tunnel entrance.Thesis for the road cross-section width of the transition section is designed to provide atheoretical basis for reference for the designer.
