Nowadays, the traditional pneumatic and hydraulic drive system has beengradually replaced by the electric drive system in modern aerospace equipment.Since the motor is the most important actuator in the electric drive system, toguarantee the reliability of the motor drive system is particularly significant. As aresult, the Dual-winding BLDCM (Brushless DC Motor) was widely used in theaerospace and other fields which require high reliability. In order to further improvethe reliability of the motor control system, in this article, some operational strategy, like the current balance, the sensorless control and the fault-tolerant control wasstudied.First, the structure, the mathematical models and the working principle of theDual-winding BLDCM were introduced. Then, the model of the Dual-windingBLDCM double closed loop drive system was established with MATLAB/Simulinkin detail, while the normal operation and the two backup fault-tolerant operationmodes were simulated. What’s more, the control system was verified by experiment. As a result, the theoretical and experimental foundation was established.Second, the winding current sharing control of Dual-winding BLDCM wasstudied. The causes and consequences of current imbalance were analyzed, and themodel of Dual-winding BLDCM control system based on maximal current sharingmethod, which is widely used in switch source area, was established with theMATLAB/Simulink in detail and simulated compared to the average current sharingmethod. The simulation results demonstrate the validity and correct of this currentbalance control strategy and it is better real-time and immune to interference thanthe average current sharing method.Third, by the finite element simulation and experimental verification, it wasfound that the non-working winding could provide rotor position information toachieve sensorless control when the Dual-winding BLDCM which is shifted0°electrical angle operated with one single winding. According to this phenomenon anew method by detecting the non-working winding terminal voltage was proposed. Moreover, three kinds of method to estimate the rotor position were simulated anddone experiment. After that, the simulation and experimental results confirmed thefeasibility of the control strategy. Finally, a fault-tolerant control strategy was proposed by the integrated vectormethod when there was a single phase open fault in Dual-winding BLDCM. In thischapter, the basic principles of integrated vector method were described, and afault-tolerant control strategy was proposed by changing the current of the rest five phase when a phase was open. Then, this control strategy was verified by the finiteelement simulation, but the average torque drops and the torque fluctuationincreases. Moreover, the model of fault-tolerant control of Dual-winding BLDCMbased on open winding control was established under the MATLAB/Simulinkenvironment. And the simulation results validated the effectiveness of thisfault-tolerant control strategy.
