With human exploration, developing and utilizing of space resources, theconcepts of distributed vehicle and fractionated vehicle are proposed. The vehiclesneed to complete the release and separation of payloads, including the separationbetween satellite and rocket and the separation of cabins. On orbital separation isbecoming one of the key technologies in aerospace field.Some small maneuver vehicle consists of I stage and II stage. It can realize onorbital separation of the two stages steadily with the action of stage separation unit,due to the demand of mission. Ground separation test can simulate the relativemotion of on orbital platform and stage separation of the maneuver vehicle and thecontrol action during the separation, thus it will complete full-physical simulation ofthe process of on orbital separation.This paper firstly compares and analyzes domestic and overseas small thrustpropulsion technology and chooses cold jet propulsion. Ground separation testsystem of the maneuver vehicle based on cold jet propulsion is designed accordingto the demand of mission, and detail design is conducted for the mechanicalstructure, power system, control system, vision measurement system, ground controlconsole and system’s wireless communication of the two stages’ motion simulator.Then, cold jet propulsion system of the maneuver vehicle is designed. HPNitrogen is chosen as propellant, and according to the computed result, the cubageof tank should be at least10L so as to achieve9m/s speed increment; An exhaustnozzle whose thrust force is among800mN-1200mN is designed based on thefundamental of the work of thruster exhaust nozzle. The exhaust nozzle is a lavalnozzle with1.1mm throat diameter and0.8Mp inlet pressure and the result ofsimulation indicates mainly linear correlation between thrust characteristic and inletpressure of the exhaust nozzle.At last, ground separation test of the maneuver vehicle based on cold jetpropulsion verifies that the designed ground separation test system can meet thedemand of braking within40s,90°attitude maneuver within150s and technicalrequirements of position, velocity, acceleration, angle, angle speed raised during thetest. Result of the test is analyzed, which verifies that the thrust force of thedesigned exhaust nozzle is about900mN. The whole test goes on wheels, whichverifies the feasibility of the application of the designed cold jet propulsion systemin the ground separation test.
