Masonry, as a kind of traditional wall materials, has been widely used. However, in rural areas, there is almost no research on masonry materials. In order to study the safety and the performance of masonry materials in rural areas systematically, it is necessary to carry on the on-site investigation and draw the conclusion rigorously. This paper is aimed at studying the fundamental mechanics performance of the most common masonry materials in Guangxi rural areas, which is the KPI19circular holes clay perforated brick masonry. And by combining the current code, we attempt to make a systematic evaluation of its safety and application.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1Experimental research is carried on fundamental mechanics performance of materials, including exterior quality of bricks, density, void ratio, absorbency, the compressive strength and young’s modulus of bricks and mortars.2On the basis of "Standard for test method of masonry", we improved its loading system and deformation measuring point layout scheme in axial compressive test to obtain accurate stress-strain data. By analyzing test results, clauses of code and theoretical deductions, the proposed calculation formula of compressive strength of target masonry has been carried out.3By fitting stress-strain data, the ascent phase of target masonry constitutive curve has been obtained, after combining mathematical derivation, the compressive stress-strain whole curve expression of clay perforated brick masonry has been proposed. By analyzing experimental results, the calculation formula of young’s modulus and the recommended value of Poisson’s ratio of target masonry has been proposed. What’s more, the changing law of young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio with the load changes has been analyzed.4Through experimental research on shearing, the failure characteristic of target masonry has been described. According to the test results, proposed calculation formula of shear strength has been carried out. The effect of mortar "Pin Key" on improving shear strength has been quantitatively analyzed.Through experimental research, this paper explored the fundamental mechanics performance of KPI19circular holes clay perforated brick masonry, provided theoretical basis for its application in engineering, it is beneficial for its promotion on the construction in Guangxi rural areas.
