The tensioning device as a key components of large belt conveyor, the development process is go along with the development process of the belt conveyor’s evolution. With the development of the belt conveyor’s long-distance, large-scale and high-speed, its tensioning device is also increasingly specialized, experienced heavy hammer type, winding trolley type, until the intelligent tension type. Nowadays large belt conveyors propose a new and higher requirements such as real-time responsiveness of its tensioning device.In this paper, the actual working conditions was fitted as two mathematical models, after analysis every conditions which might impact tensioning device’s performance and the design requirements of the tensioning device, One is the dynamic equation and the equation of motion when the belt conveyor working in normally condition, the other is the stress wave equation(including the kinematics equations, dynamics equations and the material constitutive equation) when the belt conveyor working in non-normal conditions. And through modeling and simulation of the mechanical system、hydraulic system which work in frequency control automatic tensioning device(ZJ-120/45D), to the conveyor belt for the study analysis belt conveyor’s Dynamic characteristic curve, to the tensioning car for the study analysis tensioning device’s Dynamic performance. Belt conveyors, which long6000m and2750m,are the prototypes establish two sets of simulation model. Built the system model in AMEsim, and got the following conclusions:The conveyor belt’s tension increases with the conveyor start slowly, in the process, the tensioning force that tensioning device proved for belt conveyor also increases gradually. When conveyor horizontal running, the tension have a fluctuate in80s to90s,when conveyor U-shaped run, the tension have several fluctuates in35s、59s and81s. Conveyor layout has much effect on the conveyor and its tensioning device.The head and tail velocity fluctuation is much smaller in long conveyor than in short one. Tail velocity fluctuation occur after it move. The velocity fluctuation sustained about100seconds in short conveyor and it sustained about60seconds in long conveyor.The tensioning device’s maximum velocity is0.07m/s when it working in a Long conveyor, and the velocity is0.05m/s when it working in a short conveyor. After the long conveyor has worked65s its tensioning device has a retrograde, at the same time the tensioning device’s velocity curve have a significant fluctuations, then the tensioning device moving slowly until300s then the conveyor stable operation. After the short conveyor start to run there are obvious fluctuations between30s-80s appeared in the tensioning device, at the same time its velocity curve was fluctuant too, but when the conveyor stable operation the tensioning device’s velocity slow down to0.Under the action of impact load, tensioning device’s velocity and tension curve have a obvious vibration, and long heavy conveyor’s vibration effect obviously than the short conveyor. In this paper, the tensioning device’s displacement in long conveyor rapid change in10seconds, and the tension is twice the normal operation tension. The tensioning device’s displacement in short conveyor rapid change in5seconds, and the tension is three times of the normal operation tension. The analysis showed that the frequency control automatic tensioning device could ensure the desired tension in the conveyor normal starting or braking, but also real-time response to various stress occur in the conveyor running, and it also have certain unloading effect to impact load.
