A Study On Regionalism Of Resort Hotel Design In International Tourism Island

Along with the overall progress of construction of Hainan International Tourism Island, unique superior resources and liberal policy environment of Hainan tourism, attract well-known international brand hotels settled here. Hainan has gradually become a region of the most concentrated with top hotel brands of the country and higher level of internationalization. Among them, relying on unique natural environment of Hainan, resorts become the type of the most characteristic hotels in Hainan, especially the high-star coastal resorts built along the coastline have been unprecedentedly developed, springing up a large number of international standards resorts design, but there are also many problems. Currently, the main form of architecture, the decoration of the interior space and the landscape garden planning of Hainan’s resorts are mainly mimicked the Southeast Asian style, while are implanted few design elements of Hainan local culture and southern China style, resulting in vague regional sense of place, weak local ethnic boundaries as well as the interior homogeneity. Such phenomenon triggers travelers feeling the loss of senses of singularity, place and belonging and thus they feel tired of consumption, which is a direct impact on occupancy rates and operation of hotels. Therefore, the development of the resort hotels in Hainan should combine with the rich tourism sources of local important elements, such as natural environment, local culture, materials technology, etc. And the strategy of enhancing the construction within the Island and the alliance with outer world should be implemented.
