In the middle of a rapid urbanization in present China, the originality and variety of regional architecture is under serious threat and destruction. Given China’s inevitable rise, and an essential need for cultural prosperity alongside economic growth, China will strive to showcase its unique urban culture and landscape to a world still doubting its role.Post-disaster reconstruction, identical in its speed and demand for regional characteristics with the country’s urbanization, provides an excellent study opportunity of urban construction under specific Chinese situation. In this perspective, this paper will take the post-disaster reconstruction as a central case to examine regional design.Firstly, in the literature review process, a list of points has been made regarding the characteristics of the traditional towns. The review also looks at the relationship between regional culture and landscape features, as well as the history and theory of the design domain on the geographical characteristics.More importantly, in the process of researching on this paper, the author carried out various field researches and interviews during actual post-disaster reconstruction projects. The records produced in this process focuses on reality and its many details, providing rich, first-hand data for succinct research in this area.Based on the materials of on-site investigation and participation in post-disaster reconstruction projects, the paper summarized some key points in today’s regional design in the final part, reflecting on the origin and core of regional design.
