The middle route project of South-to-North Water Transfer is a large hydraulic project. Ifsafety accidents occur, it will cause serious consequences, not only leading to loss of propertythreatening and the lives of the local people, but also hindering the country’s economicdevelopment. Therefore, the safety monitoring of hydraulic structures is widely paid attentionto and emphasized. In this paper, based on the second section of Fangcheng stage of themiddle route project of South-to-North water transfer, researches are conducted on the issuesof safety monitoring technologies of hydraulic structures, such as the design of safetymonitoring of hydraulic structures, the selecting and installing methods and the analysis ofmonitoring data during the construction period.The contents of the main research in this paper are shown as follows:1. A review is presented on the course of development, current situation at home andabroad, and the developing trend of safety monitoring of hydraulic structures.2. The project overview of the middle route South-to-North Water Transfer andsecond section of Fangcheng stage is introduced, confirming the major monitoring projects,designing safety monitoring for Tuojiaohe inverted siphon,Tiahe aqueduct and Caodunheaqueduct, and then mapping the designs out.3. Combining construction characteristics of the middle route project of theSouth-to-North Water Transfer, researches are conducted on selecting the monitoringinstruments, and research into the installing methods of the main safety monitoringinstruments, aiming to find out suitable installation methods and precautions; Based on thesafety monitoring characteristics of Fangcheng II in the middle route project ofSouth-to-North Water Transfer, a matching organization responsible for quality managementand a quality assurance system are developed.4. Through analyses and researches of the monitoring data during the construction period,whether the design is reasonable, whether the instrument selection is correct are verified andthe operation of the construction is judged.
