The sluice of the Three Gorges Project will be immensely improve the shippingconditions in the reservoir area, nevertheless, new adversely affect the construction ofwharf structures. Depending on the experiences accumulated in the wharf extensionproject of Naxi Ditch in Chongqing, our research work mainly focuses on developingthe key technologies in the build of suspended vertical wharf structure at the fluctuantbackwater area of Three Gorges Reservoir area. According to the particularhydro-geological conditions in the location, we analyze the characteristics of traditionalsuspended vertical structure and the types of tied-arch bridge structure, then we proposetwo structural schemes of the vertical terminal with caisson-dolphin under high waterlevel mutability in the inland river. Furthermore, we discuss feasibility of execution onthe infrastructure, berthing components and topside structure. Besides, we studied themechanical features of some parts in the terminal by using ANSYS finite elementsoftware. The main content has been divided into the following aspects:⑴By analyze the hydrological statistics of the fluctuant backwater area after thesluice of the Three Gorges Project, drawing the water level duration curve of fluctuantbackwater area, reasonable analysis the construction water level of suspended verticalwharf structure, propose the vertical terminal with caisson-dolphin with arch-stringerstructure according to the wharf case in Naxi Ditch and confirm the rise to span ratio inaccordance with the arch-stringer structure, then we calculate the reasonable arch axis,to come out a feasibility analysis that meets all-day construction in the fluctuatingbackwater segment.⑵We set up an arch-stringer ANSYS finite element model by using a separatedmodeling of reinforced concrete, calculate the static force, analyze the mechanicalcharacteristics of the arch-stringers and discuss the impact of reinforced bond slipexplore on the property of structure.⑶We establish the finite element model of the pier beam slab terminal and twovertical terminals with caisson dolphin, and analyze the natural vibration characteristicsbased on the modal frequency variation and vibration mass participation factor. We also explore the stiffness distribution characteristics of the vertical terminal withcaisson-dolphin and provide a theoretical basis for the wharf design.
