Some diseases are inevitably to emerging in the highway pavement after a period of using time and the water damage is the main factor through the actual survey. Most diseases are related to the erosion of surface and underground water in various extents, such as subgrade depression, water scouring, slide, mudding, asphalt pavement raveling, stripping, map cracking, and cement concrete pavement pumping, faulting, fracture. Water intensifies the damage of subgrade and pavement structure, accelerates the deterioration of pavement serviceability, which shorten their service life. Therefore, whether the road drainage is unobstructed affects pavement operational performance and service life, which becomes an important factor.Installation subsurface drainage system of pavement structure can rapidly discharge the water accumulated in the pavement structure outside to the subgrade and pavement structure. It is advantageous in improving pavement performance and enhancing its service life.Through analyzing water damage mechanism of asphalt pavement, design method, design principle and major technical performance indexes of subsurface drainage system is discussed based on the studies at home and abroad. With the pavement construction of Yuan-Wu highway in Yunnan, the design and study of subsurface drainage system has been carried out in detail, and the design process of subsurface drainage system is obtained. Connected with cross section patterns of highway, the design program of base course and edge drainage system which meet to request are given also. After subsurface drainage system of experiment road is made, construction method of mixing, spreading, roller compaction and maintenance process of are summarized.Through analyzing operating conditions and test results of Yuan-Wu highway for two years, it is show that setting subsurface drainage system can improve the drainage performance, which is a valid method to solve the water damage in pavements in south rainy regions. |
