The two main types of hydraulic actuators are hydraulic motor and hydraulic cylinder, which are achieved rotary movement and linear reciprocating motion under the action of a hydraulic. But in many applications, the motion combined with two movements above is needed in many applications. It is rotating propulsion. Aimed at the above application, the two kinds of traditions and the characteristics of the actuators, this paper studies a new type of hydraulic actuators-rotating hydraulic cylinder, which combined two traditional actuators characteristics. This paper including:The structure and working principle of the hydraulic cylinder is designed. Coupled with the traditional vane hydraulic motor and hydraulic cylinder, we used hydraulic motor turning movement parts to replace hydraulic piston in the cylinder part. In the same action of hydraulic source, the reciprocating propulsion and rotating combined motion with load capacity was realized in a single cylinder with two oil circuit. Based on this thought, the rotating hydraulic cylinder prototype is designed and fabricated.The technical characteristics of the hydraulic cylinder is analysed. Because of the combined motion based on the same hydraulic source, the hydraulic oil in the cylinder can automatically realize soft flow distribution. Which make the rotation reciprocating motion of hydraulic cylinder have the features of good adaptive characteristics in elastic feed and energy complementary. When feeding resistance is increased, the hydraulic pressure is increased, which improve the torque of the hydraulic motor. When the resistance is reduced, torque is decreased, which achieved energy saving purpose. Not only compound motion can be based on the same hydraulic source, but also can further by separating oil reciprocating and rotating movement of the control respectively.The output characteristic of the hydraulic cylinder is discussed. The output thrust, advancing speed, output torque and rotational speed to the input pressure, the relationship between the input flow of the hydraulic cylinder were analyzed and carried on the preliminary experiment research.The structure of new type of rotating hydraulic cylinder is compact. With high energy-efficient, it’s convenient for operation and maintenance, which can be widely applied to machine tools, excavating equipment, mixing equipment, oil drilling, mining and other engineering fields.
