With the development of modern industrial technologies, industrial equipments tend to be larger automation and continuous. It is important to improve productivity, reduce operating cost, ensure product quality, to ensure that equipment in a variety of working conditions for stable operation. Reciprocating machines are important in industrial production. Because of its wide range of applications, its fault diagnosis study is of great significance. This paper launched the study on failure characteristics extraction of reciprocating equipment. The vibration signal of reciprocating equipment is non-stationary, because of the complex structure of reciprocating compressors and different kinds of excitation sources. Traditional signal processing method based on Fourier Transform can’t effectively extract fault features. The HHT method, which was proposed by Huang et al, is a method dealing with non-stationary signal. In this paper, the HHT method was compared to other three methods commonly used in time-frequency-domain analysis. As a result, we find that the HHT method has higher time frequency resolution, better self-adaptability, and greater anti-interference performance. It can deal with non-stationary vibration signal from reciprocating compressor effectively.By combine the correlation coefficient with the EMD decomposition method. A method for removing the deceptive Intrinsic Mode Function from the result of EMD. And this method is applied to feature extraction of vibration signal of reciprocating compressors, comparing marginal spectrum and frequency spectrum of the original signal with the Intrinsic Mode Function component, it has been found that the HHT method which has improved frequency characteristic of vibration of reciprocating compressors.
