The ground space is more crowded and cannot meet people’s daily traveland event needs, with the development of science and technology andpopulation growth. In recent years, people are developing the undergroundspace, such as underground shopping malls, and subway. The rapiddevelopment of underground space has brought a lot of new problems that needto be addressed, including the seismic safety of underground structures.Common seismic design methods cannot be used to underground structures dueto they have different mechanical characteristics from common structures.Underground structure earthquake damage has happened many times in historyin other countries. Underground structures in the event of earthquake damage, may result in serious casualties and economic losses in earthquake. Therefore, underground structures seismic design has become more significant. On thebasis of previous works, we use shaking table test and numerical simulation toanalyze underground structures’ damage mechanism in layered foundation.Details are as follows:1. On the basis of previous works, we summary the types and damagemechanism of underground structures, and several research methods ofunderground structures seismic design.2. Introduce the ABAQUS, and verified the viscous boundary effects, andintroduced the methods of the balance of the initial in-situ stress in theABAQUS.3. We analyze the shaking table tests did before. Analyze the clay test andsand interlayer test, and we get the underground structures’ damage mechanismin layered foundation; Input different seismic waves for the same test, and weget the spectrum’ effects to the underground structure.4. Based on the ABAQUS, there is a numerical simulation to shaking tabletest to underground structures in layered foundation has been done, andcompare the results to the shaking table test.5. Based on the ABAQUS, there is a numerical simulation to the actualsize of the underground structure model has been done; we give theunderground structures’ damage mechanism.
