In order to meet people’s various requirements of automobiles, auto makers need a large number of experiments on car to help to improve the design. Generally, it needs the test of the driver’s operation in car experiment, but, a lot of test projects will affect the driver’s health. Therefore,using human drivers instead of vehicle robot driver to complete the test is a good choice.Vehicle discharge experiment as the background, in order to reduce the test cost, improve the efficiency of test, improve the accuracy of vehicle speed tracking, the research of vehicle robot driver is carried out. The specific contents include:1. The design indexes of vehicle robot driver system are presented. According to the design indexes the overall design scheme is developed. The vehicle robot driver’s driving actuator drive mode is electric drive.2. The motion parts and control system of vehicle robot driver system are designed in detail. Assembly drawings of the base, all mechanical legs and mechanical arm of the robot driver are rendered by AUTOCAD. The composition and operation principle of each part are introduced. The electrical cabinet which is the control system is designed and its working principle is introduced.3. Vehicle speed tracking control strategy of vehicle robot driver is deeply studied. To overcome the shortcoming of traditional PID control applied to robot driver, a speed tracking method based on fuzzy-adaptive PID is proposed. The theory of the speed tracking method based on fuzzy-adaptive PID is introduced, and the speed tracking system is designed.4. The test software of vehicle robot driver system is developed by Visual Basic. Basic function of the test software include users management, test data configuration, speed curve display and robot driver control.5. The discharge experiment is performed using the designed robot driver on chassis dynamometer, and the corresponding speed tracking curves are output.After many test, experimental results show that using the robot driver instead of human driver for discharge experiment can protect human driver’s healthy, reduce the test cost, improve the efficiency of test, and to ensure the accuracy and reliability of discharge experiment results. Thereby, the robot driver is of great value to quicken the development of the vehicle industry.
