The fusing resistor was a newly created component after the appearance of the fuse,varistor and thermistor in the circuits. The fusing resistor was a component thatpossessed both functions of a fuse and a resistor. It was found that fusing performanceof fusing resistors was slightly inferior to the professional fuses through the experiments.In this dissertation, the material parameters and coating material of fusing resistors arediscussed in order to improve the performance of fusing resistors.The fusing process of fusing resistors is nonlinear and analysis methods are verycomplex. In order to save resource, the finite element method was used in thisdissertation. The finite element software ANSYS was utilized to establish the model offusing resistors, and a numerical simulation and experimental verification have beenperformed for its change process of instantaneous temperature field at over currentsituation. In addition, the fuse time and temperature contours under the different currentstate were gained through the thermoelectric coupling simulation of the fusing resistors.The comparative results between simulations and experiments showed that the error ratewas about5%, which provided a method and theoretical basis for the design andmanufacture of fusing resistors.After the accuracy result of the simulation was verified, the material and diameterof fuse wire, temperature coefficient of resistance, heat conducting coefficient,resistivity, thickness of coating and heat conductivity of ceramic were varied andinvestigated to improve the performance of fusing resistors.The voltage-endurance characteristic of fusing resistor was dominated by theproperty of protection layer. The effect of coating material on fusing resistor wasinvestigated theoretically and experimentally in this thesis. The specific study wascarried out through changing the thickness of coating material and varying theconcentration of dilute solution and SiO2. The optimal parameters were finally obtainedvia the previous study to improve the performance of fusing resistor.
